August 22-24 (Friday to Sunday) - Flight Festival

The Flight Festival has once again requested our assistance with the show box and hot ramp security. We desperately
need several individuals to assist with this request. We need 3 or 4 more on Friday, 4 or 5 more on Saturday.
You do not need to work the Hot Ramp all day. ANY time that you can work would be GREATLY appreciated. Please
contact me if you can help. ~ DeAnn |

September 3rd - McConnell Air Force Base full scale exercise.

They have asked the City and County first responders to play as well. The scenario will involve an off base air
crash of a military plane carrying munitions. The plane will go down in the Wichita Fire Training grounds located
at 31st South and Oliver. I am trying to work with law enforcement to allow CERT members to work perimeter controls.
I hope to know more on that by next Friday, BUT I do know that there is a need for a minimum of 50 victims that
need to be transported to 2 or 3 hospitals. The majority of these victims will be burn cases. So IF ANYONE is
interested in playing a victim please let me know as soon as possible or if you know anyone else that would be
interested please let me know. The victims will probably need to be onsite at approximate 7 am and the exercise
will run until early afternoon. In the meeting that I attended with MAFB personnel, they compared it to the
exercise drill we did last fall with KU. Again if you are interested in playing a victim please let me know
ASAP as I need to find at least 50 people.

October 3-5 KS-Train in Salina

Many of you that attended the Kansas Citizen Corps Conference last July in Salina have asked about the dates
for this year. Well, the 2nd Annual Kansas Citizen Corps Conference registration is now available on KS-Train.
The conference is a great opportunity to exchange ideas with other volunteers around the State and through
classes offered you will learn new skills and knowledge to assist you in your response capabilities.

The Word Document showing the link and instructions for registering on KS-Train was in your email dated 07/22/2008,
or you can get it again
from me. The Conference will be held October 3-5 in Salina, Kansas. The conference
registration fee, your lodging (at the hotel), and most meals are provided. Your only expenses will be gas to get
to the conference (encourage carpooling), your Friday evening meal and Sunday lunch. You do not need to call the
hotel to make lodging arrangements. Your hotel registration will be done when you register on the KS-Train website.
There is a limit on the number of participants (first 100 to register), so don't delay in registering.

This year there will be an awards ceremony during the Saturday night banquet to recognize one exemplary volunteer
from each county and one of those will be chosen as the Kansas Citizen Corps Volunteer of the Year.

As you register, you need to indicate that your affiliation is with CERT. If you list any other organizations
your registration will NOT be covered by the grant that is funding the conference.

Let me know if you have any questions. ~ DeAnn |
