Verizon Motorola Droid

Part Number: A855       This will be a relatively short review.

Introduction:

It would help you to read my index page first, so you understand what lead me to here.

Purchase Experience:

Couldn't wait any longer. I had to have a phone.

Delivery:

None. Picked up at purchase time.

Setup:

Victor (my dealer) did most of it. It helps to have your Gmail password memorized.

Calling Experience:

Good, even almost excellent.

Apps:

I didn't have it long enough to do a good review of apps. Not of any relating specifically to this Droid anyway. See my App Page for more info.

Accessories:

Screen protectors - I bought them and wish I hadn't. OK, but not worth the cost.

Body Glove - Liked it. I use it with the belt clip, which also has a stand leg (cool).

Dock - DON'T GET IT! It works OK, but for me, it was a hassle taking the body glove apart just to mount the dock. Stupid move Verizon/Motorola!

No, I did not purchase any insurance. I do not think it is needed, 98% of the time. That's my gamble.

Any Problems Encountered?:

None. Well, there was this one misunderstanding I had with the OS. To me, the term "Mount" means for the OS to access a device. But on this device, it means for the device to relinquish all control and usage over to your desktop computer. Sort of backwards, I think.

The Keyboard:

I hated the slide out keyboard. This is not a problem, but my preference. The slide is just another part that could break. The keys are offset due to the D pad, making it hard for ME to type. The keys have low tactile feel, without much feedback. So, I used the on screen keyboard almost exclusively. This surprised me greatly. I expected the opposite.

Rants and Raves:

Pro:
1 Computing on the go!
2 Good specs: CPU, RAM, screen, microSD card, flash camera.
3 Intuitive UI, like the News and Weather Widget.

Con: 1 The Keyboard. 2 I like the camera on my new HTC Droid Incredible much better. 3 Square and heavy. (Masculine)

Customer Service Experience:

Zwireless was great.

Bottom line:

This Droid is a FINE phone. There is nothing wrong with it. If it fits your needs, go for it. That being said, it is not the phone for everyone. Caveat Emptor. For me, if the HTC had not come out within my 30 day return window, I would have been happy keeping the Motorola.

It's a good phone, no doubt about it! I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
